Jesus Christ
Seraphic Guardian
of the Blood,
hallow the places
where innocent life
is shed,
make of them
holy ground,
burning shrines,
stations of Your
passion lived again .

Touch us too
0 Fiery Seraph,
with the memory
and fever
of Your wounds
of love,
sear us with these
five sacred hermitages
where we might hide
and seek
and find
You.
Amen

The only human being known to have seen the Seraph who is also Christ Crucified, is St. Francis of Assisi. In September of 1224, two years before his death, Francis was seared with the stigmata, or wounds of Christ, during a vision of the Seraph, atop Mt. La Verna north of Assisi. I believe Francis' followers also bear this particular charism, so utterly holy, of the healing flow of the five wounds.

This icon is also the Seraph Guardian of all the innocent bloodshed through time, whose voice has been heard chanting since the death of Abel:

"What have you done?
The voice of your
brother's blood
is crying to me
from the ground."
Genesis 4:10

The Seraphic Guardian of the Blood is dedicated to Seaman Allen R. Schindler, a twenty two year old young man who was beaten to death in Japan on the twenty seventh of October, 1992.

This icon resides in the Russian Orthodox Church of the Holy Royal Martyrs in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
